Martin & I have been fostering Torres for Gracehounds for 10 weeks now, so I thought it was about time for an update…

The poor boy’s not had an easy time of it really – shortly after we took him on he developed a limp & our vet diagnosed corns on his right forepaw. Apparently this is a relatively common problem in greyhounds but often needs repeated surgery to remove the corns. So we’ve been back & forth to the vets like a yoyo these past few weeks & poor Torres has been off his feet for most of the time.
His paw is finally starting to heal now though & he is back to enjoying walks with our other two. This has all been a huge set back for him really, as it has put a hold on the whole adoption process. Fingers crossed though, now that he’s fit & well, a forever home is just round the corner.
All this enforced lack of exercise has left our Torres a bit restless & full of energy, but he’s been very stoical about it all really. He loves stretching out on the sofa on his back (in that particularly ungainly way that only greyhounds do) & having his tummy rubbed, but also likes quiet time & we’ll often find him lying peacefully in a little ‘nest’ he’s made among the long grass in the garden, just watching the world go by.

He adores being outside, especially if there’s a game of frisbee involved! It’s so weird because neither of our own two dogs have ever shown the slightest bit of interest in a frisbee, but Torres is just fascinated by them – it must be something about the way they move. He will chase after it, then ‘play-bow’ & pick it up, parading it around the garden proud as punch, before (somewhat reluctantly) bringing it back to be thrown again!
He has also developed a love of water, & takes any opportunity to immerse himself in it! Our little water baby can’t wait to wade into streams & rivers when we’re out for walks, & even did a spot of swimming in the sea when we were at the beach the other day. & he’s happy to improvise with whatever water’s available – he frequently lays himself down in the puddles we pass on our daily walks!

Torres is a gorgeous dog, who is very easy to fall in love with. We don’t think he is suitable to be homed with cats (on account of his high prey drive) or young children (at only 2 years old, he is still a boisterous young thing himself), but he is so affectionate & eager to please, & just desperate for someone to give him their undivided love & attention. Let’s hope that special someone is just round the corner…
