The principle and method of rust prevention for metal products
Release date:2022-07-01
Metal products are damaged by the action of surrounding media, which is called metal corrosion. Rust of metals is the most common form of corrosion. During corrosion, chemical or electrochemical multiphase reactions occur at the interface of the metal, causing it to transition into an oxidized (ionic) state. This will significantly reduce the strength, plasticity, toughness and other mechanical properties of metal materials, damage the geometric shape of metal components, increase wear between parts, deteriorate physical properties such as electrical and optical properties, shorten the service life of equipment, and even cause catastrophic accidents such as fires and explosions.
The principle and method of rust prevention for metal products:
(1) The principle of rust prevention is based on the corrosion conditions of iron, and it is not difficult to infer that the method to prevent iron from rusting is to isolate iron products from air or water.
(2) Rust prevention method:
① Keep the surface of iron products clean and dry, such as wiping and placing a kitchen knife when not in use.
② Cover the surface of steel with a protective film, such as a car or ship surface, and apply paint.
③ Plating a layer of other metals on a steel surface, such as chrome or zinc plating on the surface of a faucet.
④ Use chemical methods to form a dense protective film on the surface of steel, such as baking blue.
⑤ Improving the structure of metals, such as making steel into stainless steel
(3) Rust removal method
Physical method: Grind with sandpaper and scrape with a knife.
Chemical method: Clean with acid (acid should not be excessive), and the reaction that occurs is: Fe2O3 6HCl=2FeCl3 3H2O or Fe2O3 3H2SO4=Fe2 (SO4) 3 3H2O.
